These are some of the many hundreds of sketches Karam produced in Reading, England, having taken refuge there with his family during the Israeli-Hezbollah war of 2006 in Lebanon. His sketches combine military planes, tanks, bullets, guns and smoke with their human protagonist and targets to illustrate the utter absurdity that brought nothing to both countries but death and destruction. Within this world, there are nevertheless a few sketches containing glimpses of absurdity, optimism and reflection through Karam’s characteristic elements, birds, flowers, light bulbs or a Thinker.
