In this painting, a diagrammatic aerial view of the Charles Bridge is the scene for a game of strategy. The Charles Bridge baroque sculptures in white line both sides of the bridge like sentinels, and Karam’s Archaic Procession black elements are in the center, unable to penetrate their midst. Collages of the Himmelblau creatures dance among them, breaking up the duality and functioning as reminders of the original dream of the project. This painting could be seen in the light of the obstacles Karam was facing during the realization of the project as he tried to integrate contemporary sculptures with religious sculptures on a historical bridge within Prague’s political and social crosscurrents.
