Description

Enlightenment is part of a period of works within which Karam draws a haphazard compression of his alphabet of Archaic Procession elements, fusing their figurative shapes into an intricate, monochromatic landscape of stories that are sensed rather than perceived. For the Enlightenment triptych, this almost abstract landscape forms most of the background. A giant Elephant takes the foreground; a multi-colored, joyfully spontaneous expression of splashed paintwork that spans the breath of the three canvases. On either side of it surge Karam’s lotus root flowers, which erupt out of the landscape at the skyline and spray abundance around them. In the center, the eternally linked Couple are running, carried on the back of the giant Elephant.
